Assalamu alaikum, dear friends! You are on the “Madm and the World” channel. Today we will start for you with a village, whose history dates back more than 2500 years. This is the village of Madm, one of the oldest settlements in the Zarafshan Valley. Based on the documentary research of historians, the name Madm was mentioned in scientific and historical sources in very early times. Even during the world-conquering campaigns of Alexander the Great in Central Asia, in 329–327 BC, Madm is mentioned as a geographical term. These facts clearly indicate that the first inhabitants of Madm lived in times, whose history goes beyond the scope of popular imagination. In the Middle Ages, the status of Madm rises noticeably. It turns from a simple settlement into an important administrative center. In the upper reaches of the Zarafshan Valley, a regional power is formed, known in history as Buttamon. It was during this period that Madm was chosen as the main center of this power. This fact is evidence of the great strategic and historical importance of the village. This point has been proven by prominent Tajik scholars - Academician Bobojon Ghafurov, Academician Ahror Mukhtorov, Professor Yusufshoh Yakubov with scientific evidence. Also, famous researchers in the field of Sogdian studies - Braginsky, Marshak, Ishoqi Abdullo and others have emphasized the place of Madm in the history of the region.
