Ali Teoman Alpay (born July 29, 1933, Çanakkale - passed away on February 11, 2005, Çanakkale) was a Turkish vocal artist and lyricist. He began his musical journey by winning the ud (a musical instrument) audition held by Ankara Radio, and he subsequently joined the radio's group of instrumentalists. Over time, he made significant progress in his field and eventually rose to become the youngest conductor for Turkish music broadcasts in Turkey. He also served as the director of Erzurum Radio. Ali Teoman Alpay was born in 1933 as the second child of lawyer Ahmet and Zehra Alpay. One of his notable performances was the song "Nasıl Geçti Habersiz," (How did it pass unnoticed) chosen as the song of the year in 1972. In the following years, his songs "Gökyüzünde Yalnız Gezen Yıldızlar,"(Stars that Wander Alone in the Sky) "Buruk Acı,"(Bitter Pain) and "Sarmaşık Gülleri"(Climbing Roses) also achieved recognition. In 1997, his composition "Kalbimi Kıra Kıra" (Breaking My Heart) was selected as the most beloved piece by Istanbul FM listeners, earning him a gold plaque award at the Atatürk Cultural Center. He had his first marriage with Sabahat Bora, with whom he had a son, Bora, in 1957, and a daughter, Zerrin, in 1958. In 1981, he married journalist Ruhsar Renda, the eldest daughter of "Birlik" newspaper owner M. Cahit Renda. Tragically, he lost his son, Bora, in 2003, and in 2005, he suffered from leg gangrene due to diabetes, ultimately passing away on February 11, 2005, in Çanakkale SSK Hospital due to respiratory failure caused by the gangrene. His burial on February 14, Valentine's Day, was marked by heartfelt respect from the Çanakkale community, and in accordance with his wishes, a clarinet was played at his graveside.
