Angina pectoris is chest pain caused by reduced blood flow and oxygenation to the heart. This is a classic symptom of coronary artery disease (CAD), which is most commonly caused by atherosclerosis (plaque build-up in the arteries). The narrowed arteries lead to decreased blood flow and oxygen to the heart, causing chest pain. ⭐️ Stable Angina ➡️ Occurs during physical exertion ➡️ Predictable pain pattern ➡️ Relieved with nitrates and rest ⭐️ Unstable Angina ➡️ Occurs at rest and more frequently ➡️ Not relieved by nitrates or rest⚠️ Requires urgent intervention! ⭐️ Prinzmetal (Variant) Angina ➡️ Caused by coronary vasospasm (sudden narrowing of one or more coronary arteries) ➡️ Occurs at rest ➡️ Relieved by nitrates and calcium channel blockers (CCB) ⭐️ Microvascular Angina ➡️ Caused by spasms of microvascular arteries (small branches of coronary arteries) ➡️ Pain lasts longer than 20 minutes ➡️ Can be stable or unstable 💬 Comment below if this was helpful and share with a fellow nursing student! #nursingschool #anginapectoris #nclexreview
