After suffering a life-changing spinal injury, a young teacher from central Ohio is back on his feet again. ABC6’s Terri Sullivan shares the story of this man’s remarkable recovery. Last July (2014), Kyle Sherman dove into a Hilliard pool and came out paralyzed. After being underwater for at least four minutes, strangers noticed Sherman at the bottom of the pool and pulled him out. Since that day, Sherman has climbed extraordinary heights back to health. And his recovery has been considered nothing short of a miracle. “When I woke up, I couldn’t move things until a couple days after, where I started to move a thumb and a toe and eventually I moved my foot,” says Sherman. It turns out that Sherman had sustained a spinal injury that with a lot hard work, could be overcome. “He really surprised me from where he came from,” says OhioHealth Rehabilitation Hospital’s Dr. Jonathan Pedrick. “When he was here, he started driving a wheelchair with his lips, and that’s all he could really move effectively.” Sherman spent 33 days at the OhioHealth Rehabilitation Hospital, and was up walking within three weeks. Through it all, he never gave up hope. “You can’t really give up in those situations, no matter how bleak it looks,” says Sherman. “It’s better to have faith than not.” Learn more about OhioHealth's Rehabiliation Hospital by visiting http://bit.ly/1WDrxmJ Have you meet someone you has recovered from an injury like this?
