Shubh was born in 1987 in a musical family of tabla maestro Pt. Kishan Maharaj as his grandson. His father Pt. Vijay Shankar is a renowned kathak dancer, naturally Shubh got music in his blood by his both families. Shubh Maharaj, born in 1987, is a distinguished Indian classical musician renowned for his mastery of the tabla. He hails from a prestigious musical lineage; his grandfather was the legendary tabla maestro Pandit Kishan Maharaj, and his father, Pandit Vijay Shankar, is a celebrated Kathak dancer. From an early age, Shubh exhibited a profound affinity for rhythm, often playing on miniature tabla sets. Recognizing his innate talent, his father introduced him to the tutelage of his grandfather, Pandit Kishan Maharaj, at the tender age of one. In 1993, Shubh formally became his grandfather's disciple, joining the esteemed lineage of the Benaras Gharana. Shubh's dedication and rigorous training culminated in his first solo tabla performance in 2000, at the age of 12. He has also been appreciated by senior tabla virtuosos like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Kumar Bose, and Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Notably, Shubh has accompanied luminaries like Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in their performances.
