The one and only show on 25th of October 1997 by an early band of mine called The Young Australians where I was playing drums. The Singer/guitar player Zac and bass player Mark were both Americans and I was the only Aussie. So the name was just a bit of a fun joke plus a play on the Weston song we covered. Kiarra, Spirit of the Empathette and Callous also played this. Show cost was only $2 to cover the cost of the rehearsal room. This was a really fun band and I wish we could have done more than one show. 1. Superbarrio: He takes to the streets to fight for what's right; political rallies and protests through the night. For single parents and the unemployed, he fights for Mexico like our drummer is Lloyd. The corrupt government and the power elite, they have a new enemy that they cannot beat. They've oppressed for so long. they're gonna be sorrio. He's the voice of the people, he's Superbarrio. (BD) Where there's a strike at the picket line you'll find Superbarrio. He rallies for the people and he won't let them down; he's Superbarrio. The corrupt government better watch out for Superbarrio. Vote for him by write in ballot he's Superbarrio. (Verse two is the same, but translated into Spanish) 2. Things To Do: Fill your lunch box with non-dairy creamer. Take Lloyd to bed and learn he's a screamer. There's so many things we've yet to discover. There's so many things we still have to learn. (V2) Familiarise yourself with the geography of Melboume. Convince Mark to grow his hair like Regis Filben. Watch lots of re-runs of 'The A Team.' I love it when a plan comes together. 3. Old Man (Neil Young Cover): (Chorus: Old man, look at my life, I'm a lot like you. I need someone to love me the whole day through. One look in my eyes and you can tell that's true. (V1) Old man, look at my life, twenty four and there's so much more, live alone in a paradise that makes me think of two, love lost, such a cost, give me things that don’t get lost, like a coin that won't get tossed, rolling home to you. Young Pennsylvanians (Weston Cover): Young Pennsylvanians, get up off of your duffs. We're bigger than Jersey; enough is enough. The home of poison, Mack trucks and where opium grows. The state where Larry Holmes broke his first nose. (Chorus: Young Pennsylvanians, here we come) (V2) Start a war with D.C.; they're smarter than us. Be the boss of a country; don't miss the bus. All you Pennsylvanians, women, men, boys and girls. All you Pennsylvanians, we’ll take on the world. 5. Cheating The Met: (VI) Commit me to a twelve step program I’m addicted to cheating the Met, ride for free or say I'm concession, I'll take what I can get. On the train with an invalid Metcard, on the tram with an altered ticket, public transportation is the man, and to him I'm going to stick it. (V2) Zone one, Zone two, Zone three, I sure hope that they never catch me. I admit that I'm pushing my luck, but I figure, hey, 'what the fuck?' I know one day I may be fined, but I just can't break this addiction of mine. 6. Ode To Sloth: (VI) Take the time to watch a film called "Goonies," and you will learn about a man named Sloth. he's not pretty; he's no George Clooney. Freaks out bad if you piss him off. (Chorus: He's big and fucked up and he's misunderstood, chained up and locked away, not treated good until Chunk came along with his fear and his Baby Ruth and formed friendship out of love and the mutual sweet tooth.) (V2) Sloth escaped his family and joined the Goonies in their quest, with his superhuman strength and heart of gold in his chest, and when things went wrong and looked quite sour, Sloth saved the day with that superhuman power. (Chorus again) 7. Young Australians: (Vl) We're Young Australians and we’re feeling all right because we began the day with our Vegemite All Young Australians, hold your heads up high. We'll be Young Australians until the day we die. (V2) Young Australians always look really cool because of the kick ass uniforms we wear to school. We bust a move and we shake our rears in the biggest dance clubs in the Southern Hemisphere. Some Young Australians have receding hairlines or travel the world on Qantas Airlines, but we'll be Young Australians even when old and greying because the youth in our hearts is always prevailing. (V3) We' re feeling really good because we're young and Aussie and a couple months ago we saw Fugazi. We got the best flora and we got the best fauna and at the end of the day we relax in the sauna. Other people judge us and they call us corrupt because we masturbate like we made it up, but even when feeling sick from something they ate, a Young Australian always says 'G'day Mate!’ #theyoungaustralians
