Shanshui City In this lecture Ma Yansong will introduce recent projects by MAD Architects, including his ideas on Shanshui City. To Ma Yansong Shanshui City is a combination of city density, functionality and the artistic conception of natural landscape. This idea could be taken as a critique of the state of urbanisation in contemporary China and an imagination of future cities. Ma Yansong says: "The city of the future will shift from the pursuit of material civilisation to the pursuit of nature, aiming at composing a space that takes human spirit and emotion at their cores." Beijing born architect Ma Yansong has been recognised as a important voice of a new generation of architects. His works are widely published and exhibited since the founding MAD in 2004. He studied at the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and holds a master degree in Architecture from Yale University and taught Architecture at the Central Academy of Fine arts in Beijing. Prior to founding MAD, Ma Yansong worked as a project designer with Zaha Hadid Architects in London. Ma Yansong received the American Institute of Architects Scholarship for Advanced Architecture Research in 2001 and won the 2006 Architecture League Young Architects Award. In 2008 he was selected as one of the twenty most influential young architects today by ICON magazine while Fast Company named him one of the ten most creative people in architecture in 2009. In 2010 he became the first architect from China to receive a RIBA fellowship. Find out more about this lecture on The Bartlett website at http://www.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/archite...
