When we gather, we don’t describe Turkana — we feel it. Set in Lodwar, northern Kenya, When We Gather is a short documentary capturing the 9th edition of Tobong’u Lore, the Turkana Cultural Festival. Meaning “welcome home,” Tobong’u Lore brings together the Ateker communities from across Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia to celebrate shared heritage, peace, and unity. Through moments of everyday life, sunrise at River Turkwel, children at play, artisans at work, cultural performances, exhibitions, and vibrant youth nightlife, the film reflects how culture is lived, not performed.
