His notes on this album are quoted below: "It's essentially my take on an ambient pop album. I was influenced by everyone from Enya, to Lana Del Rey, to Burial. Raved up, dreamy pop music, drenched in that 36 melancholy" Dennis wrote the lyrics and melodies, which were then performed by Yassie, in her London studio. "Her voice is so beautiful, and layering it brought out this incredibly rich, ultra-wide, constantly expanding soundstage, which just floods your headphones with emotion. The real challenge was resisting the urge to just keep cascading her voice over and over, because every time she sang, the music became even more lush." Written over the course of the last 12 months, during a time of personal upheaval, it's 36 at his most vulnerable, and the first time he has worked with more traditional, vocal-led song structures. "Outside my debut, it's probably the most amount of time and energy I've ever spent on a single studio album. It's a heavy record, no question about that. If you read the lyrics, maybe you'll figure out what it's about, but I wanted to keep things open to personal interpretation, as ultimately the listener needs to find something they can emphasise with. As I have said many times before, I don't want to make sad tunes, just for the sake of it. The sound should always glow, even in the darkest moments.
