How come are we still dealing with Boolean algebra? Our quantum laptops, where are they? Should we throw the bits to the bin and get qubits instead like bitcoins? Please, please, please, slow your horses. Please! There is still a long way to go - euphemistically speaking - before you see a laptop size quantum computer. Without any false pretense about predictions, let’s leave the subject at bay for some long decades... Until then, if you really need to deal with any computer apps, stay tuned on silicon chips. They are all governed by logic rules and algebraic calculations, polished for years by many bright engineering minds. If I had to highlight only a couple of the most relevant names, I’d pick two of them: George Boole –he didn’t have a degree but ended as a university teacher and laid out the foundations of what became the “Boolean” algebra governing all our computers today. Claude Elwood Shannon, probably “the most important genius you’ve never heard of” as put in the book. Not only he re-discovered Boole’s work, but he played an essential part in coining the word “bit”. There are several books about his amazing work and life, and also the 2019 movie “The bit player”!
