It forms the outskirts of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metropolitan area and is about 30 km (19 mi) northeast of Islamabad. It has an average altitude of 2,291 meters (7,516 ft). The British built this town during their rule to escape the scorching heat in the plains of Punjab during the summer. Kohala (Urdu: کوہالا) is a town in Pakistan on the River Jhelum, north of Murree, south of Muzaffarabad, and east of Bagh. Muzaffarabad (Urdu: مُظفّر آباد) is the capital and largest city of Azad Kashmir, and the 60th largest in Pakistan. The city is located in Muzaffarabad District, near the confluence of the Jhelum and Neelum rivers. The district is bounded by the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the west, Abbottabad ( Urdu and Hindko: ایبٹ آباد) is the capital city of Abbottabad District in the Hazara region of eastern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is the 40th largest city in Pakistan and the fourth largest in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by population. It is about 120 km (75 mi) north of Islamabad-Rawalpindi and 150 km (95 mi) east of Peshawar, at an elevation of 1,256 m (4,121 ft). Kashmir lies a short distance to the east.
