BANGKA VERNADOC CAMP 2018 INDONESIA

During 4-19 August 2018, Indonesia had successfully managed Bangka Vernadoc Camp, by involving many diverse participants coming from South East Asians countries to documenting the vernacular architecture in Muntok town, Bangka Island, Bangka-Belitung province. The Vernacular Documentation (Vernadoc) is a creative method to capture and record the detail features of architectural building towards the efforts of manual hand drawing approach with high quality of precision. He was Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, ST., M.Sc., PhD who initiated the event, supported by Universitas Indonesia (UI), Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) VERNADOC, Department of Tourism and Culture of West Bangka Regency, the Provincial Government of Bangka-Belitung, the Indonesian Tin Museum, the Association of Indonesian Architects (IAI) Bangka-Belitung, and University of Syiah Kuala, Aceh. The 22 participants were a complete mix of professionals, students, and teachers from Universitas Indonesia and Syiah Kuala (Indonesia), Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi, and Khon Kaen University (Thailand). Documenting vernacular architecture by using VERNADOC method has indeed many purposes. The unique drawing result shows up its bright aesthetic of any mundane building. One of them is to gain the awareness of and inspire many people of how valuable the vernacular architecture they have in their own.
