"You get the Sponge Treatment! Oh, H a n s!" Fun "merengue samba" from the original Studio One album SO 18 [Berry Music, pressed by Tranco/Pye?], minus the odd sounds and vocal effects, here's Gerhard Mohr's "Good Bye Samba"! Mohr is credited as "Ben Nabor", and the ensemble is credited as "Fernando Mendoza and his Bahia-Percussion Band". The label gives the recording copyright, ℗1973. Many of these ensembles are pseudonymous and feature many of the same musicians; "Mendoza" doesn't appear on any other albums but one from Conny Records, which appears to be an outfit associated with Konrad "Conny" Wolf, whose music is on this record as well. The marimba and vibraphone elements might come from Heribert Thusek or Gunter Greffenius [whose music is also on this record], but it's hard to say. Many of the tracks on these albums, like this one, were reissued by Sonoton and syndicated through Associated Production Music - SCD 262 "Lounge Exotica" in this case. Unfortunately, Sonoton has a bad habit of making the clean originals "Version B" on reissues; it's great to have the original performance here! Shame there's some wow-speed problems on this side... It made its appearance in SpongeBob SquarePants short "Suds", used in the Sponge Treatment montage as SpongeBob is being cured, as well as a few other shorts "Home Sweet Pineapple", "Opposite Day", and "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic". Luckily for all of us, a copy of this record was available in the United States [where it won't take 3 months to ship from one European country, whose neighbors' got items here in a month or less] - so here it is!
