This presentation explores the need to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into education systems. With a focus on ‘how, when and for whom’, it will highlight the motivations and necessity behind integrating ESD into education systems and provide a deeper understanding of how ESD aligns with the global Sustainable Development Goals and national curricula to illustrate its central role in addressing pressing global challenges. The presentation will also emphasize the identification of key competencies that are essential for ESD and offer practical insights on how to promote these competencies in educational settings. It will provide an insight into actionable strategies to cultivate sustainable thinking and action in students and thus contribute to a more sustainable future.
