In this video I answer that question. From the brutality of World War 1 to life saving tactics not translating well to gameplay mechanics, shooters based on the Great War often struggle. Games like Isonzo, Tannenberg, and Verdun were considered good games, just not very successful. While Battlefield 1 is considered the last great Battlefield game (Hopefully not for long with Battlefield 6) while sacrificing authenticity for fun. An upcoming game, Over The Top by Flying Squirrel Entertainment is attempting to balance both realism and fun. Will the game be able to pull it off or will it be another World War 1 game collecting dust? Time will tell. Disclaimer : Some footage is real, others are just parts of old movies.
