At our press conference today, I outlined serious concerns arising from the 2026 Budget Estimates review in the National Assembly. I pointed to the G$900 million Men on Mission programme operating without reports for three consecutive years, the Office of the Commissioner of Information receiving G$35 million annually without laying required reports for over a decade, and the government owing approximately G$100 million to a private news entity without a clear payment line item. I also raised issues including a completed guard hut at Mahaicony reappearing as a new budget allocation, the Mahaica-Mahaicony-Abary Agricultural Development Authority receiving G$650 million while only G$1.7 million is set aside to service G$7.9 million owed to the Union/Naastigheid NDC, GUYSUCO’s G$2 billion debt to the National Insurance Scheme alongside an G$8.4 billion subsidy, the G$500 million hostel project lacking finalized drawings, and inconclusive soil testing in the gas-to-energy project, all of which I said underscore the need for stronger oversight and accountability.
