And that is a great question. There are two types of surrogacy, there's traditional surrogacy and there's gestational surrogacy. So when surrogacy first started, it was primarily traditional surrogacy, which is artificial insemination of the surrogate and the surrogate uses her own eggs. So a combination of either donor sperm and the surrogate's own eggs or the intended father's sperm and the surrogates own eggs. And in that case, the surrogate is most definitely genetically related to the child that she will carry. However, the most common form of surrogacy and what we do here at Hatch is called gestational surrogacy. In gestational surrogacy a surrogate goes to the IVF process, taking medications to prepare her body for an embryo transfer. And then the embryo is transferred to the surrogate's womb. Well, in that case, the embryo is not related to the surrogate in any way, shape or form. The parents are using either their own genetic material or a combination of their genetic material and donor material. Or in some cases, it is a donor-donor surrogacy where both an egg donor and sperm donor are used. In any of those gestational surrogacy cases, a surrogate is not biologically related to the child that she will carry and legally and emotionally, it makes it a less complex process.
