In this video, we ride on the S45 Vorortelinie, a convenient, yet very historic railway line connecting the Western districts of my home-city Vienna. On the way, we learn about the fascinating history of this railway, covering it’s original construction as part of the Vienna Stadtbahn, its gradual decline after the 2nd world war, as well as the amazing efforts to revive and enhance this line as part of the Vienna S-Bahn since the 1980s. I’m also going to take you on a tour around one the stations, Hernals, which was designed by the architect and city planner Otto Wagner, who is famous for his decorative Jugendstil buildings.
