What is Hamas?| Story of Resistance Against Israel in Gaza| Palestine-Israel Conflict The 362-square-kilometer Palestinian Gaza Strip, surrounded by Israel, Egypt, Jordan and the Mediterranean, is one of the longest-running conflicts in the world and has a direct impact on the foreign policy of many countries, including Pakistan. The most densely populated area, with an area of only 12 km, is home to about 2 million Palestinians. Gaza is also considered the world's largest prison since 2006 due to international sanctions and the constant siege of neighboring Muslim countries, although the government in Palestine belongs to Mahmoud Abbas of the Fatah party, who has held the presidency since 2005. But the Gaza Strip is in fact beyond the control of the Abbas regime, which is under full administrative control of Hamas, which has been the biggest obstacle to Israeli occupation of Palestine for decades, and has become a symbol of resistance against Israel and support to Palestinian struggle for independence. Hamas is the largest and most organized Palestinian resistance group against the Israeli occupation. In fact, the name is an Arabic abbreviation for the Islamic Resistance Movement. The movement began in 1987 with the beginning of the first Palestinian resistance against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, when its first founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, decided to resist the Israeli occupation. Sheikh Ahmed had the support of another Palestinian resistance fighter, Abdul Aziz al-Rantisi, who is said to be the co-founder of Hamas. Sheikh Ahmed Yaseen was born in 1938. Palestine was under British rule at the time. From then on, all his ideas and perceptions began to be based on the humiliation and defeat that the Palestinians faced after the defeat. He was disabled from childhood. He was kilked in 2005 in gunship helicopter attack. Sheikh Yassin's death became so prominent on the world stage that even Shimon Peres, Israel's most senior opposition leader at the time, who later became Israel's prime minister, condemned his death. Egypt's Islamist organization Hamas has been considered part of the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan ul Muslimeen). Hamas considers the same foundations on which Sheikh Hassan al-Banna, the Brotherhood's founder, formed the organization, to be part of its manifesto. The elimination of Israel and the liberation of the occupied territories is at the heart of Hamas' manifesto. Initially, Hamas had two main objectives, one to run social welfare programs for the Palestinians and the other to wage an armed struggle against Israel. Hamas's military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, was responsible for the armed struggle, while other matters have been handled under the political wing. Ismail Haniyeh is currently the head of Hamas' political wing, with Khaled Meshaal as his deputy. The militant group in Gaza has fought three major battles with Israel, in which Israel has always faced stiff competition. The recent conflict between Palestine and Israel has temporarily stalled, but this is not the first time that several Israeli cities have been hit by Hamas rockets. Israel's state-of-the-art weapons, tanks and air force are competing with self-made rockets. Israel has a state-of-the-art Iron Dome system designed to intercept these rockets. In the midst of recent tensions, the Israeli military claims that Hamas fired 1,500 rockets at Israel in the first two rounds, but that most of them were destroyed in mid-air by the Israeli defense system, the Iron Dome. Israeli officials say the success rate of their defense system, the Iron Dome, is about 90 percent. Israel actually decided to build the Iron Dome in 2006 after the war against Hezbollah, but Israel has Hamas as the second major reason for the construction of the Iron Dome. In addition to Hezbollah, Hamas has also rocketed Israel on several occasions causing huge trouble for Israel. Israel has spent about 210 million dollars on the project, which is increasing every year.
