What’s Your “No-Pee Rule”? | Mindset for Beginner Artists

When my oldest son was little, he and his friend were potty training at the same time. His friend was so afraid of getting a drop of pee on himself that he took off all of his clothes every single time he used the bathroom. That story has stayed with me — because as artists, we often do something very similar. We create rules for ourselves based on fear, perfectionism, or past experiences, and those rules quietly shape what we allow ourselves to try, make, or even begin. In this mindset video, I share this story and invite you to reflect on your own “no-pee rule” as an artist: • What belief might be holding you back? • Where did it come from? • And what would change if you gently questioned it? Watercolor (and creativity in general) asks us to be a little vulnerable.
