First start after 7 months winter storage. This is what you want and hope to see: the perfect start up. Personal/Informal video that I decided to share. If the info is helpful, please thumb UP. Don't judge based on my poor phone cam work. Again, was for personal documentation only. This demo was pre-drive for our first trip of the year. Our bus was never started or warmed up during storage. I DO NOT run the engine to "warm it up" for normal storage periods - EVER. The engine and drivetrain (transmission, drive axle) need almost an hour of highway driving to reach operating temperatures even in Spring or Fall weather. Crucial to allow complete moisture/condensation evaporation. Reduces internal engine, trans and axle rusting. TIPS/Comments: Batteries are kept on float charge with a 24V smart charger. Fuel treatments are helpful but not necessary in our region despite sub freezing temps. Seasonal diesel blend is fine. Biofuel is used during the RV season. Biofuel ratio reduced low as possible to prevent rusting; appx 10% ** High TBN (pH) synthetic oil used (ask and I will provide details)**. DO NOT let an engine sit in storage with acidic/old oil. Sitting for 1.5 to 2.5years w/o driving or running is fine (with the right oil and fuel additives). Starts right up. Ideally driving every 3-6 months for at least one hour is preferred. Rule of Thumb: drive the vehicle if the engine is started. Avoids fuel dilution. An engine that is hard to start or blows a lot of white smoke may have been "warmed up" during storage. Or idled too much. Or driven too lightly. If so it will need to be driven - hard - either in the hills or towing. Fresh oil will help clean out the piston rings. There's a lot to know!
