On June 8, 2024, Coracle partnered with the Center for Formation, Justice & Peace to host a day-long conference entitled, “Do You Want to Be Well? Diagnosis, Treatment & Healing for the Church in America.” The conference brought together 10 incredible Christian thinkers, leaders, and pastors to identify the particular maladies that afflict the Evangelical church in America, with a focus on Christian nationalism, racism, and patriarchy. This conference offers something constructive, something we hope can be deeply encouraging if not transforming. Over the day, we moved towards hope and healing, with opportunities for spiritual practice along the way. In view of the sicknesses afflicting the Body of Christ in America, we feel called to walk into the light and toward Jesus for our own healing and for the sake of others. Mariah Humphries kicks off the "Treatment" segment of the conference with a stirring reflection on the call and posture of hope for American Christians. Hope can mean many things, but what does it mean to practice hope in the face of the staggering issues facing the American church today? Mariah's exhortations are both challenging and encouraging. Mariah Humphries is a Mvskoke Nation citizen, German, Scottish and Czech. With more than twenty-five years of vocational ministry service and a master’s degree in theology from Truett Seminary, she is a speaker and writer at the intersection of faith and justice. She has been featured on several podcasts and is a chapter author in Voices of Lament: Reflections on Brokenness and Hope in a World Longing for Justice, Justice Looks Like…Reflections on Living the Gospel in an Unjust World, and the forthcoming works "Need to Know: Empowering Female Leadership and Why it’s Essential for the Future of the Church" and "We Follow Christ: A Women’s Guide for Discerning God‘s Call."
