WELL Labs is implementing a pipe-to-field pilot in Distributary 10 of the Narayanapura Right Bank Canal (NRBC), Karnataka. The aim is to demonstrate a community-led, digitally informed and equity-focused model for last-mile irrigation delivery. The initial phase of the pilot is currently underway across six Field Irrigation Channels under Lateral 1 of D10, covering 120 acres and benefiting around 50 farmers, most of whom are smallholders. Building on this, the goal is to revive the entire Distributary 10 command, spanning over 1,500 acres, by the end of the year. This initiative is led by WELL Labs in collaboration with the field partner PRARAMBHA and supported by NVIDIA India CSR and being implemented in alignment with KBJNL (Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited) and ACIWRM (Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resource Management). This pilot seeks to transform irrigation governance at the last mile by integrating digital tools, participatory planning, and decentralised management. It aims to show how a combination of local leadership, cost-sharing mechanisms, and context-aware design can overcome structural limitations of canal systems and restore farmer confidence.
