According to Ignacy Czwartos, the preparation for painting the image of the Divine Mercy lasted his entire life. In his commentary, the artist talks about the tension between abstraction and sacred painting and the complicated process of painting Merciful Jesus. Abstract painting, which I head deal with until recently and that I continue to deal with, requires concentration and prayer. I often thought of Christ. The task to paint anew the image of the Divine Mercy was a combination of abstract spiritual painting with figuration. I have been preparing my whole life for this – said Ignacy Czwartos about the project “Let’s Paint Catholicism Again”. *** The image of Divine Mercy has been painted anew! This extraordinarily demanding challenge, both artistically and spiritually, was faced by 10 Polish painters, who have been invited to cooperate with two institutions – the Saint John Paul II Institute of Culture of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) and the Saint Nicholas Foundation. The paintings will now be presented to a wider audience. This is an introduction to a larger undertaking, which aims to revive religious painting. The exhibition presents images of Merciful Jesus painted by: Jarosław Modzelewski, Ignacy Czwartos, Wincenty Czwartos, Jacek Dłużewski, Wojciech Głogowski, Jacek Hajnos OP, Krzysztof Klimek, Bogna Podbielska, Beata Stankiewicz and Artur Wąsowski.
