Insight/Onsite: Sogetsu Ikebana Summer Studio at Fallingwater Institute Featured Artist/Instructor: Reiko Nakajima and Atsumi Sewell – Sogetsu Ikebana sensei August 22 - August 24, 2025 This dynamic 3-day, 2-night program embraced Sofu Teshigahara’s vision for the Sogetsu School of Ikebana: ikebana can be practiced Anytime, Anywhere, by Anyone. Creative practitioners across art, architecture and design gathered in the mountain meadows surrounding Fallingwater to explore material, form and collaboration. Guided by modern ikebana principles, they responded to Fallingwater’s landscape and natural resources, culminating in collaborative “living sculptures” installed onsite. Sogetsu Pittsburgh is a collective dedicated to studying and sharing Sogetsu ikebana through workshops, projects and exhibitions. Founded in 1990, it engages the public through collaborations with organizations including The Andy Warhol Museum, Phipps Conservatory, Cleveland Botanical Garden and Carnegie Mellon University. Recent projects include "Gei 芸: The Beauty of Ephemeral and Eternal" (2024–25) at Contemporary Craft and "Elements of Balance," a 2023 residency and installation at Fallingwater through The Fallingwater Institute. Sogetsu Pittsburgh and Fallingwater Institute present Insight/Onsite: Sogetsu Ikebana Summer Studio, supported by the Ikebana Iwaya Fund and Fallingwater, a program of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Video and sound design: Bright Archives, 2025. ABOUT FALLINGWATER: Fallingwater is hailed internationally as a masterpiece of 20th century architecture and is Frank Lloyd Wright’s most recognized example of the harmonious union of art, architecture and nature. Entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in 1963, this dramatically cantilevered house over a waterfall was designed in 1935 for its natural setting and inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. https://fallingwater.org/fallingwater...
