Agilian How We Work: NPI Process Explained

This video explains Agilian Technology's new product introduction process which is how we work with you on new product development and manufacturing projects. We show you the NPI process in graphic form and then dig into the 6-phase process (which has the same principles as the EVT-DVT-PVT steps commonly used, but it is more generic allowing us to cater to more product types more easily). The phases are as follows: 1. Defining the specifications (high level) 2. Feasibility / Proof of Concept 3. Prototyping 4. Tooling 5. Pre-Production Preparation 6. Production We felt the “Product Development” block needed to be broken down (it is split into phases 1-3 in our NPI process). “Engineering Validation Testing”, “Design Validation Testing”, and “Production Validation Testing” corresponds to our Tooling and Pre-Production phases (4 & 5). The number and size of the builds vary a lot with the expected production volumes, and we have to adjust to that. “Mass Production” is phase 6. When working with us we don't do all of the work in every phase, it's a collaborative effort as we're your contract manufacturer. We are at our best providing feedback and suggestions in phases 1, 2, and 3, and then handling the work in phases 4, 5, and 6. To summarize, typically, most of the work in phases 1 and 2 is done by you. Sometimes we handle phase 3, sometimes not. The video also provides a typical timeline for new product launch projects in Gantt chart form that shows you how we work, with overlapping tasks. We also explain the option to expedite the launch for additional costs and with marginally higher risks (which can be weighed against the extra speed), and explain what other activities you might choose to purchase when you're almost ready to go into production.
