Simplest Parsi Custer (Not Lagan Nu Custer) with veg option

This is a simple custard, which we Parsis pronounce as custer, not to be confused with lagan nu custer, the rich, heavy custard full of cream and nuts. This is a lighter, not-so-rich version, but a good quick-fix dessert to finish off a regular holiday meal. It is flexible and forgiving, since the sequence of adding ingredients does not make a difference. It can be made with milk powder or 3 cups regular milk boiled till it is reduced to 1.5 cups. you can vary the thickness of the milk to make it lighter or richer. Sugar can be increased or reduced according to your wish. A quick taste just before cooking will guide you. It can be steamed in a steamer, or a pressure cooker, or baked at 375⁰ F in the gas or electric oven, or cooked in the microwave as described in the video. Please use a heat proof lid if you are baking or steaming. cling wrap is ok for microwaves, not for other ovens. Cooking it in the microwave is a bit tricky, since very high power will turn it into sweetened scrambled eggs. If in doubt, better experiment with lower power rather than higher. Choose the correct power level setting for your microwave as described below. Ingredients for 2-3 servings 1/2 cup milk powder 1 cup water 2 tbsp sugar 2 eggs 4 cardamoms (1/3 tsp powder) 1/8 of a nutmeg (1/3 tsp powder) 1/2 tsp vanilla or ice cream essence VEG OPTION - with flour or custard powder Must be cooked on a stove top as follows. Mix 1/4 cup cool milk and 1.5 tbsp of either plain flour, corn flour or custard powder to a smooth paste. Bring the milk to boil. Now add the flour-milk mixture gradually, with constant stirring. Cook on medium flame till it forms a thick paste. Put off the stove. Add sugar, fried nuts, raisins, powdered cardamoms and nutmeg. Mix. Transfer to serving bowl. Garnish with few fried nuts and raisins. Chill and serve. it will be pasty when warm, so l have to serve it after at least 4 hrs refrigeration. HOW TO CALCULATE POWER LEVELS OF A MICROWAVE OVEN Power level of your microwave will be mentioned on the door panel or at the back of the oven. Calculate the required power levels of your microwave as follows: High Power = the power of your microwave (100%) Medium high = 70% of the max power Medium = 50% of the max power Medium low = 30% of the max power Low = 10% of the max power Eg. My Microwave oven has 900 watts printed on the door panel. So for my microwave, power is calculated as: *High power is 900×1= 900 watts *Medium High is 900x0.7 = 630 watts *Medium is 900 x 0.5 = 450 watts *Medium Low is 900 x 0.3 = 270 watts *Low is 900 x 0.1 = 90 watts
