This is my 1971 Slingerland Buddy Rich model 4x14 snare drum. It has the 3 ply maple, poplar, maple shell with solid maple rings. No tone control and the chrome over brass straight edge hoops which Buddy liked best. Buddy used this snare drum from 69 to 71. In this drum solo demo, I`m using my version of the finger control. Buddy Rich was famous for his great drumming technique and I did get to see him perform so many times. I have my version of the finger control using very little movement of my hands, wrist, or fingers. It`s a control bounce of the sticks off the drum head to my fingers. My left hand using tradition grip has a very slight push downward with my finger and I`m keep doing this to control the bounce. Right hand I`m pushing up very slightly with fingers and then letting the stick fall and keep on doing this for that control bounce. This is an amazing finger control technique which works so well for me. The sound of this Slingerland 4x14 snare drum is very crisp with great rim shots from those chrome over brass hoops. Every beat I play comes out very clearly on this snare drum. The buzz rolls comes out like super smooth with the clean sound of this snare. Of course I`m using a BR Slingerland drum set made in the 70`s with the big 14x24 inch bass drum, 9x13 tom, two 16x16 floor tom and that amazing Slingerland 4x14 snare drum. I use this drum set all the time with my Ken Loomer Big Band as you can see in this video • Swinging Up Tempo "Wind Machine" Ken Loome...
