Tähtitorninmäki, also known as Observatory Hill, is a rocky hill located in Ullanlinna, Helsinki, next to the South Harbor. The hill is about 30 meters high and is mostly a park, but it also features a few public buildings. At the top of the hill, you'll find the Helsinki University Observatory, which was completed in 1834. Although it's no longer used for research due to city lights obscuring the night sky, it serves as a public center for astronomy1. The park offers excellent views of the sea and has historical significance, having been part of the city's fortification line in the 18th century. Eteläsatama, or South Harbour, is a bustling port area in Helsinki, located next to the city center. It serves as a major hub for passenger ferries, particularly those traveling to Stockholm, as well as for international cruise ships. The harbor is also a key point for cargo traffic. The area around Eteläsatama is quite scenic, with views of the sea and nearby islands. It's a great place to take a stroll, especially around the Market Square (Kauppatori), which is right next to the harbor. The Market Square is a lively spot with various stalls selling local food, crafts, and souvenirs. Kaivopuisto, also known as Brunnsparken in Swedish, is one of the oldest and most well-known parks in central Helsinki. Located in the southern part of the city, it borders the Gulf of Finland to the south. The park is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, offering vast lawns, rocky cliffs, and beautiful seaside views. Kaivopuisto is a favorite place for picnics, sunbathing, and various outdoor activities. During the winter, the largest hill in the park becomes a popular spot for tobogganing. The park is especially lively on Vappu (May Day), when thousands of people gather for picnics and celebrations. The park also features several notable landmarks, including the Ursa Observatory and the historic Kaivohuone restaurant and nightclub. Additionally, the area around Kaivopuisto is home to many embassies and old villas.
