When positioning a sharp sign next to a note the square in the middle needs to be on the left hand side of the note head. The vertical lines should be slightly offset to each other and the horizontal lines at a slight angle. When we write the note name the word "sharp" or the sharp sign is put to the right of the letter name. A Flat sign is used to show that the note should be lowered a semitone in pitch. The widest part of the flat should be on the same line as the note head. The flat sign is always on the left of the note head in music. When we write the the name of the note you would draw the flat sign in place of the word B flat, that is to the right of the note. Thank you for watching our video.
