This is the fifth winter I’m spending in my off-grid cabin in the Carpathian Mountains. It has been a long winter full of great challenges—I had surgery for a herniated disc and spent the entire season focused on recovering properly. Then, I was left without a car because I sent it for restoration, meaning I was completely isolated, unable to go to town until it was ready. However, the thought that crosses my mind most often is how I managed to get through so many harsh winters alone, here in the middle of the wilderness. It’s quite a story—and it’s only just beginning. 00:00 NOVEMBER - The first snow came on an early November evening, and the first snowfall is always a joy—I want to savor it fully. The nights are getting longer, and the cabin feels ever more cozy with the fire burning in the stoves. In November, I had to finish renovating the small bedroom, and I can say it turned out well—it’s now ready to welcome guests for the winter that has begun. Trips to town become rare in this weather, and life settles into a slow rhythm—cooking, reading, walks through the frozen wilderness, and the joy of solitude. 39:11 DECEMBER - The month begins with me freshly out of surgery after rushing to the hospital one night in an emergency. I move slowly and carefully, needing to stay as warm as possible. The first few weeks are very tough—I struggle to rest due to the high cortisone levels in my body and the effects of the surgery. I spend a lot of time with my children and friends, and this is also the time of year when I prepare meat for the winter—sausages, smoked tenderloin, smoked bacon, fried meat preserved in lard, and all sorts of traditional foods to last through the cold season. 01:05:08 JANUARY - The beginning of the new calendar year was marked by a dry cold that lasted the entire month. I started feeling better and was able to handle small tasks around the cabin. A few old friends visited me, and I continued taking long walks through the forest, which proved to be great training for my recovery. 02:23:11 FEBRUARY - The snow finally returns, and temperatures drop to -20°C on some nights. After a dull January, February is truly spectacular, with nature adorned in a fairytale winter. The nights start to shorten, and the days grow longer, but life still unfolds indoors, by the warmth of the stove. Long periods without sunlight force me to run the gasoline generator to charge the solar system’s batteries. I clear the snow, keep the fire going, cook, and take long walks with the dogs through the forest. The days resemble one another, but this is the life I love to live. --- Support my off grid living in the wilderness Patreon / cezaroutdoors PayPal https://www.paypal.me/CezarOutdoors --- Instagram / cezaroutdoors Facebook / cezaroutdoors --- My other channel / cezaroutdoors --- Contact: [email protected]
