Ogimachi, also known by the name of Shirakawa-go, is a village in the middle of the mountainous area in Gifu prefecture. Located in the area with heavy snowfall, it is famous for its houses with distinctive architectural style called Gasshu-zukuri. Houses with thick thatched roofs have been built since the Edo period to provide shelter in the complicated climate and also to organize the workspace for large families involved in silk producing. In the second half of the last century sericulture and traditional crafts virtually disappeared from Shirakawa-go, but local community, still tightly knit together, gave effort to preserve the village in the time of changes. Now it became an internationally known tourist site and one of the most famous landscapes in Japan. Filmed in August 2022. Directions: A personal transport is prefferable, but if you prefer public transport, there is a bus connections with the following major cities: Kanazawa, Toyama, Takayama and Nagoya. If you staying in one of those cities, one day trip to Shirakawa-go isn't too difficult to sort out, although Nagoya is the furthest, so in that case plan an early start. #japan #gifu #shirakawago #summer #japanesecountryside #日本 #白川郷 #岐阜県 #散歩 #田舎
