Anorexia as a man was one of the most seclusive experiences i've ever gone through.. My eating disorder story is one that I want to share with everyone. If I can help ONE person escape from the hole I was digging myself.. It'll have made it all worth it. If you're a man going through anorexia, know that you're NOT ALONE. Boy, girl, man or woman - eating disorders know no gender. They apply to EVERYONE. Growing up with Anorexia was one of the most isolating experiences of my life. I was absolutely obsessed with my weight, with calories, with food.. all because I was telling myself I wasn't good enough I feel like men sometimes get left out of the picture when it comes to eating disorders. I've had people tell me that they had no idea guys could even go through something like this - that they didn't know men had thoughts like this. Support, recovery, conversation, even the language that's used in eating disorder education is largely geared towards women. It definitely IS getting better! People are becoming more and more aware of the effects of eating disorders.. we're beginning to understand the importance of mental health and mental happiness. The more we talk about this, the more we can BEAT EATING DISORDERS. The more we talk about this, the less eating disorders win. This isn't a men's world OR a woman's world - it's an 'everyone's world'. Eating disorders know no gender, just like anxiety, depression and sickness know no gender. If you're a guy reading this, you're not alone. If you're a girl reading this, you're not alone.
