Our recent overnight camping trip on Mount Herman Road. This area has plenty of great dispersed camping with beautiful views, and just a short drive from Colorado Springs Colorado. Notes: -Mt Herman Road is suitable for most vehicles. The road is maintained, but ruts and wash-outs are possible during the year. The road is narrow in some places and has blind curves, so use caution. There is a sign a short distance up from the trailhead with important information for camping and hiking in the National Forest. This area is home to bears and mountain lions so extra precautions must be taken when hiking and camping. -Dispersed camping is allowed along the sides of Mt Herman Road in existing pull offs only. Do not drive off-road where there aren’t existing trails, or drive past barriers. Campsites are free and first come, first served. There are no toilets, trash service, or potable water along the road or at campsites so be prepared and pack everything out. -There are also multiple hiking and mountain biking trails along the sides of the road. The Mount Herman Trail is a nice short hike that ascends to the top of the mountain with great 360 degree views. -Campfires are only permitted when no fire restrictions are in place. -Pack out more than you pack in, it’s our job to keep these areas clean.
