(25 Aug 2018) Zimbabwe's main opposition leader said on Saturday the inauguration of Emmerson Mnangagwa as president would be "false" and illegitimate as the people had voted for his party in last month's elections. Nelson Chamisa of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) spoke a day after Zimbabwe's Constitutinal Court unanimously rejected the party's claims of vote-rigging, saying it did not bring "sufficient and credible evidence". Chamisa told reporters he had reached out repeatedly to Mnangagwa to start a process of negotiation, but said he had received no response. He said the MDC and its supporters were "ready for any eventuality", but would pursue their constitutional right to peaceful protest. He also indicated he felt threatened as an opposition leader, saying that "by challenging a dictatorship you are signing a death warrant".
