Therapists are often seen as calm, regulated, and emotionally “sorted.” But the truth is, therapists are human too. In this video, I talk honestly about the emotional reality of being a therapist: holding space for trauma, navigating burnout, dealing with stigma around mental health, and balancing our own lives while supporting others. This isn’t a complaint about the profession. I deeply love the work I do. But I believe it’s important to talk openly about the emotional weight that comes with it, and to normalize the fact that therapists also struggle, seek support, and continue doing their own inner work. If you’re a therapist, you might relate to the quiet emotional load of this work. If you’re in therapy, this might help you understand your therapist a little differently. Therapists are not perfect. We’re human, and maybe that’s what makes this work meaningful.
