www.AdventureRig.com The Apollo Lantern by Black Diamond is easily something you would look at in your local gear shop and ask yourself, “when would I ever use that?” Then, once you pick one up or are gifted one in your Christmas stocking, you will use the shit out of it and ask yourself, “how did I ever not have this?” Lightweight and compact in size, the Apollo Lantern will without a doubt light up your future campsites, night outings, or power outages at your house. Weighing in at 7.8 ounces, you’ll be amazed at the power behind the Apollo Lantern. At it’s max setting, the Apollo produces 200 lumens which will light up the darkest of camp spots. If you’d rather just have some mood lighting while you’re watching the stars appear, there are ample settings to choose from. It is great to have so many different brightness settings especially around camp. While you’re making dinner you can have it on the brightest setting, then easily dim it down to it’s lowest setting when you crawl into the tent. We’ve gotten some really great use out of the Apollo Lantern, but most recently on a week-long tent camping trip in Utah. Every night around camp we’d use the lantern and then again in the tent before we fell asleep to the silence of the desert. Black Diamond lists that the max burn time is 90 hours and while we haven’t consistently been able to test that number, if you think about using the lantern for 2 hours every night on it’s low setting, that’s about 45 days of use. This seems like an ample amount of burn time and if you’re heading out on a trip lasting longer than 45 days, all you have to do is bring extra AA batteries with you. While we have non-rechargeable batteries in the Apollo right now, putting in some rechargeable AA’s would be a more environmentally conscious option. The double hook hang loops on the top of the lantern add to the versatility of the compact Apollo, allowing it to hang perfectly from the loops on the ceiling of your tent. With the legs collapsed up, the lantern easily transitions into the perfect tent light. Whether your residence is prone to power outages or you’re a seasoned camper, the Apollo Lantern would be an amazing addition to your headlamp and flashlight collection. The size and weight makes it merely unnoticeable, unless you’re one to break your toothbrush in half to save weight. Built with the same quality standards and attention to details as their headlamps, Black Diamond didn’t disappoint with this sweet and compact Apollo Lantern!
