If you're curious about how to do concert videography, particularly as a solo shooter, then this is the video for you! In this behind the scenes tutorial, I'm going to cover my full process and all of the basics around concert videography, and how I approach filming live music using a multi-camera setup while capturing multiple points of audio simultaneously. This video is the first of a series on this channel I'm dubbing the "Gig Log" - where I cover specific behind the scenes looks at how I approach different videography and photography related-gigs by doing a full breakdown of them with behind the scenes (BTS) footage. Specifically, I'll cover all of the different gear I use, such as all of my Sony Alpha cameras like the a7S III, a7 II and a7 IV, and how I handle audio using my Rode VideoMic NTGs and Zoom H6 external recorders. I'll also show my process for setting up one of these shows step-by-step, using BTS footage from a real gig using a point-of-view (POV) camera attached to me while setting up and shooting. You'll get to see not only my actual steps for setting up a show, but I'll additionally note all of the different tips and tricks I use throughout the course of the shoot. This includes how I handle exposure (e.g. aperture, ISO), white balance, monitoring audio levels, approaching shots and compositions, and how I camera block each song. If you have any questions about my setup or my process for filming live concerts, feel free to leave them in the comments below. Also, let me know of any specific gigs or situations you'd like to see covered in future Gig Log related episodes!
