I spent big money for a Kensington Expert 5 back in the 90s and used it until I was really missing having a scroll wheel and also had to tape the wires in a specific shape for the serial-to-USB adapter to continue working. I've missed it since then and have been going so crazy trying to find a desktop solution that I finally just bit the bullet and bought a new Kensington. I am really glad I did. The cord and build quality seem top-notch and the scroll functionality by turning the ball is great. I can't figure out why they put the weird rubber tab on the left side of an otherwise beautiful design, but I'll overlook that to be happily back in the trackball business. The Kensington software seems hugely, insanely large (100MB download - what the heck is in there?) for what it does - but mapping the buttons is really convenient as well. Love it!
