This is the fourth episode of the series "Music business from artist's and record label's point of view". I go through what job titles there are at a record label and what those people do :-) In addition to being a professional musician I worked for ten years as a Label / A&R Manager at Universal Music Finland and their sub label Spinefarm Records. My job was to sign new artists and promote their careers along with the artists who already were signed for the company. And to be responsible for the day-to-day business of Spinefarm's Finnish office. I’ve come to the conclusion that even the most experienced artists have often incomplete perception and understanding of the business. I’ve answered the same questions countless times; what the different kind of contracts mean in practise, what does publicist, A&R and producer do etc. The purpose of this video series is to serve as an information kit for the aspiring musician as well as someone looking for a job in the record label as well as for those who are already in the industry.
