The Fairfield Street entrance of Manchester Piccadilly Railway station has two lifts installed by Cotswold in 2001. Both lifts serve Fairfield Street, Platform Concourse and Upper Concourse. Both lifts are also traction and contain Dewhurst buttons and the Stentorgate voice, including a custom announcement for Fairfield Street! However, that is where the similarities between these lifts end... Although they are right next to each other, these lifts are not a set, and they are quite different to each other! The right lift travels very fast but has horrendous slow and inefficient levelling whereas the left lift is slow but levels efficiently. I wonder which is the fastest overall? If I had to guess I would say that the slower lift is actually faster (if that makes sense!) because the levelling on the fast lift is so bad! If only the fast lift levelled better, it would probably be the quickest train station lift I have seen!
