#rockhounding #chemistry #minerals Green Olivine Rich Basalt From The Snoqualmie Batholith This is green basalt collected from blasted rock debris dumped onto public land from the I-90 expansion project leading up to Snoqualmie Pass. There is a lot of complex geology from this specific location telling a rich and exciting story in regards to the western Cascadia tectonic uplift. This area has historically been mined for precious minerals, metals and other significant ores of economical value. In this video, I showcase my latest specimen collected from one of my favorite locations. The area is loaded with every igneous rock type which sets my stage of understanding into a highly confused state. The specimen I have here is loaded with assumed magnesite, serpentine, calcite, diopside, magnetite, chromite, feldspar, some calcite in late stage hydrothermal alteration, and some pyrite with other sulfide minerals.
