Not since the 1960s has steam run non-stop from Birmingham to London Euston along the West Coast Main Line. However, that would change on Saturday 28th June - with LMS Coronation No. 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' taking charge of the 'Midlander', promoted by Vintage Trains. Starting at Tyseley Warwick Road, the train would pick up more passengers at Birmingham New Street, before running non-stop all the way to Euston. Utilising the Water Carrier, the tour would run via Coventry, Northampton and Milton Keynes. We begin at Bushey, on the outskirts of Watford. Rounding the corner, the Duchess powers through the station, running along the slow line towards the Capital. The next sequence showcases a few close ups of the Pacific as it sits 'on the blocks' at London Euston, following its impressive run. In addition, they managed to arrive in the Capital 10 minutes early! The train was serviced at Southall Depot in readiness for the return journey, and the ECS move from Euston to Southall is seen coasting through Hanwell station, on the Great Western Main Line. The final scene comes from Harrow & Wealdstone, as the Pacific storms through the station on the return journey, with a brief cameo appearance from a southbound 'Pendolino'.
