HxGN Live D&E 2021 - The Effects of Fluid Structure Interaction on Aeroelastic Behaviour

Noël Bijl (Senior Technical Consultant) from In Summa gave a presentation during the Hexagon Design & Engineering Live 2021. This research was focussed on one-way and two-way Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analyses on a typical narrow-body winglet. This research aimed to quantify improvements in simulation accuracy by using the MSC CoSim engine for two-way FSI analysis. To quantify the improvements of two-way FSI analysis, a comparative one-way FSI analysis was performed. Results showed that the MSC CoSim engine increased the simulation accuracy by providing superior mapping performance and considering skin friction. The computational time increased compared to the one-way analysis. Furthermore, the superior mapping performance has been proven on two complex geometries.
