After a great many brave hamsters sacrificed (godspeed), and a budget blowout that would bankrupt the space center five times over, the Quantum Displacement Array was finally ready for operational use. No longer would Kerbals have to stare up at the stars and wonder “Do they have snacks?” I would tell you how it works but there was a lot of math involved and I kind of fell asleep while the nerds were trying to explain it. From what little I could gather it will either enable faster than light travel, or in the worst case scenario fold time and space in on itself, ripping apart the very fabric of the universe and destroying all sentient life. Either way, it’s going to be interesting. Hi folks, this is Gregrox. It's always fun to work on a cinematic with Cupcake Landers. He really knocked it out of the park this time. This cinematic is set in the Kaywell/Gememma star system from Whirligig World, in which the space program is set on the rapidly rotating airless super-earth called Mesbin. There are some minor spoilers and some not-so-minor spoilers for the appearances of planets up-close in this video. This short film isn't too different from the history of Whirligig World's kerbals to begin with, which is probably why the Mesbinite test audience we showed this film to loved it so much. Though in fact their “real” starship crashed on Mesbin before they could do much exploration--leading to five hundred years of rebuilding. I think those little green cavemen now have a certain additional appreciation for their space program, if not their solar system. If you want to explore these worlds, check out Whirligig World on the KSP Forums. https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/... A big shoutout is also due to UncleVladWorks who was terrific as always and was a huge help producing the sequence with the Hypersleep pods. Thanks Vlad! / @unclevladworks Using parts cannibalised from industrial vacuum cleaners, https://www.myhenry.co.uk/ Henrys were designed to be cheap, easy to fly and above all safe. For a start all the spinning slicey bits are now housed inside the craft. This has the added benefit of centralising most of the craft's mass leading to much more predictably handling characteristics. Also gone are the leaky, heavy and expensive RTGs. It’s so light and draws so little current it can run on solar power alone. If you do somehow run low on juice the craft can auto-rotate like a champ and touch down on Kerbin at a sedate 3m/s even with the engines disabled. Just remember to apply the hub brakes after so the props don't over speed! It'll work quite happily on any planet or moon with an atmosphere with the exception of Duna. There's also an unmanned probe version called the Hetty should one be running low on live Kebals. Rumoured to have been founding members of Daft Punk, Imp Ion drones have enjoyed a long and storied history within the space agency. There’s even talk of crashed examples being worshiped as idols by tribes living deep within the rainforests. This latest update to the design slashes the component count to a measly 15 parts however the performance figures are anything but. You'll have close to 13,000m of Deta-V in the tanks allowing you to explore the frozen voids of the Kerbal system for years at a time. All this from a craft weighing in at under 1t. You’ll need to enable all SAS modes on all probes and disable the comm network in the difficulty menu to get the best out of the design. For our soundtrack this week it’s been my great pleasure and a privilege to feature indie rock titans Mercury Rev. In my humble opinion Hole’s is a track that belongs on the pantheon of songs that are damned near perfect. I don’t own the rights to this recording, this is fan love pure and simple. https://www.mercuryrev.com/ https://mercuryrev.bandcamp.com/ In addition to Mercury Rev we also have a couple of pieces from Tommy Tallarico’s MDK Soundtrack that I’ve been shamelessly plundering for years now. It’s an incredible piece of computer game music and I’d advise anyone with a love of the genre to pick up a copy. https://www.amazon.com/Original-Game-... For any AV nerds out there: Seeing as Youtube’s compression algorithm will probably butcher the more subtle palettes in this video a master quality offline copy can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5aiy77bau94... We really hope you’ve enjoyed the video and Chag Sameach to any Jewish subscribers. Love Cupcake...
