Workshop description This session isabout making more nuanced, persuasive arguments, and has a focus on International Relations motions, though its learning points can be applied to most debates. If you find yourself unsure as to why teams that ran similar ideas to you did much better in a debate, or if you struggle to come up with material when the debate is about things you don't know much about, then this workshop's for you. Who is this for The event is open to anyone. Participants are expected to have some experience with competitive debate. While the focus and examples will be based on British Parliamentary style, debaters used to other formats where analytical rigour is emphasised such as Australs, Asians, or World Schools will also benefit. About our presenter Nick has been involved with university-level debating since 2012. As a judge, he has judged the semifinals of one WUDC and three EUDCs, the Open Final of the Cambridge IV, and 100+ other outrounds. He has previously served on 17 CA teams, including SOAS IV, Imperial Open, and Amsterdam Open. As a speaker, Nick has won seven tournaments across Europe and IONA including the Leiden Open and Vienna IV, and lost many more finals at tournaments such as Paris Open, Birmingham IV, Warwick IV, KCL IV, and Athens Open. Nick also helped coach Team Greece for WSDC 2014, 2015, and 2017.
