The Toronto subway is the 3rd busiest subway system in North America and has 3 lines currently in operation. The system’s success is greatly thanks to its integration with the rest of the transit network. There are only 2 stations on the whole network which do not have a bus connection making the system accessible from almost anywhere in the city. When it was built, the idea was to make the subway compatible with the streetcars so it was built using the same track gauge. “Toronto gauge” is significantly wider than standard so the rolling stock is generally more spacious than on other systems. The trains used on the system are the T1 and Toronto Rocket which were both manufactured by Bombardier. All trains have a silver livery with the TTC logo on the front and sides. The fare system is integrated with all transit modes in the GTA and costs 3.30$ CAD per ride. Common in most successful metro systems the Toronto subway is very over saturated and in need of expansion. The GTA is undergoing one of the largest transit expansion projects on the continent which aims to greatly increase the subway’s coverage however a lot of the new lines are light rail which may not have enough capacity. Overall the system manages to successfully move around a million people a day and I fully recommend you use it to get around if you’re in the city. Enjoy the video!
