It joins the town of Fuente Dé and the El Cable viewpoint. The idea for its construction came from José Antonio Odriozola (president between 1971 and 1981 of the Spanish Mountaineering Federation), whose family was originally from the Liébana region. Designed by the engineer of Roads, Canals and Ports José Calavera Ruiz and the architect Ángel Hernández Morales , construction began on November 20, 1962 and was opened to the public on August 21, 1966. The cable car saves a difference of 753 meters. The base station is located at an altitude of 1070 meters and the base above 1823 meters. The capacity of the cabins is 20 seats. It reaches 1847 meters above sea level in 3 minutes 40 seconds , which allows quick access to the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa . The cable car is composed of 1 section, with 2 independent sections, with a conveyor in each of them, independently operating and with speed regulation. The cable is 1,450 meters long and the cabs move at 10 meters per second. The Fuente Dé is the longest cable car in Europe with a single section.
