Snow Camping in Yosemite | Solo Winter Backpacking Adventure I’ve been dreaming about snow camping in Yosemite since last year and I finally made it happen! I caught a perfect weather window and hit the trail. After arriving the night before and staying at Camp 4, I set out with a loose plan to summit El Capitan. But delays packing my gear meant I didn’t start hiking until 9:30 AM. Once I reached the top of Upper Yosemite Falls, I shifted course toward North Dome , only to find the trail completely buried in snow with no tracks in sight. Without snowshoes, I post-holed for about a mile in deep snow before deciding to pivot again. I found an epic spot overlooking Half Dome, set up camp, cooked some burgers, and watched the sun dip behind the mountains. The next morning, I woke up to a stunning sunrise, made coffee and a delicious mushroom and spinach omelette. Then made my way back down. This trip was unforgettable!
