The Class 69s are one of GB Railfreight's latest additions to their locomotive fleet, converted from former class 56 locomotives which have been fitted with new EMD engines, as fitted to a number of GBRf's Class 66s. 69002 led a previous life as 56311, and now carries BR Blue Large Logo livery, one which was commonly seen on a large number of class 56 locomotives. The class 69 was appropriately joined at Waterloo by GBRf's 66789 'British Rail 1948-1997', which also carries the BR Large Logo livery. GB Railfreight Managing Director John Smith spoke to the gathered crowd and invited guests at Waterloo, speaking at length about GB Railfreight's Engineering Director, Bob Tiller, who has been responsible for the large growth of GBRf's fleet over the years, having played an integral part in introducing new Class 66 locomotives, the development of the Class 73/9s and now the production of these new Class 69 locomotives. 69002 was proudly named by Bob Tiller as 'Bob Tiller CM&EE', paying tribute to Tiller's 42 years of railway engineering experience.
